Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 1Incorporating Worker Heterogeneity in Flexible Flow Shop Environment(ISRES Publishing, 2025-08-15) Ozpacaci, Kubra; Bekli, Seyma; Kayisoglu, BetulWe study the flexible flow shop scheduling problem with the heterogeneous worker assignment. In many real-life manufacturing systems with flow shop environments, one of the fundamental scheduling challenges that needs to be addressed is job sequences across multiple workers. In addition, the manufacturing system may require workers to have different skills at various stages during their assignment. Therefore, worker availability at each stage may vary during the scheduling horizon. Unlike traditional flexible flow shop scheduling problem, where homogeneous workers are assumed, we consider workers with different skill levels, capabilities, and capacities. We present a mixed integer linear programming model to find the optimal sequence of job assignments, guaranteeing that jobs follow their predefined operation sequence while assigning workers with various skill sets in a flexible flow shop environment. The proposed model is tested at a battery manufacturing company. By analyzing the solution, we confirm its capability to represent the problem accurately. The proposed model offers a systematic scheduling approach for a flexible flow shop environment with a heterogeneous workforce and can be implemented in other industries. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 1Hybrid Renewable Energy to Greener and Smarter Cities: A Case Study of Kayseri Province(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2024) Bekçi, Eyüp; Koca, KemalIn this study, a hybrid energy system was implemented to fulfill the electricity requirements of the trams operating in Kayseri province. The tram's annual electricity consumption data was acquired on a monthly basis from the local electricity company in Kayseri. Utilizing the obtained data, energy and cost simulations were conducted employing the Homer-Pro program. The primary objective of this investigation is to enhance sustainability while satisfying electricity demands with minimal carbon emissions. Consequently, the established hybrid energy system incorporates renewable energy sources, specifically wind, solar, and biomass energy, with the inclusion of batteries for energy storage. Furthermore, generators and converters are integrated for energy conversion purposes. The study encompasses a detailed cost analysis to identify the most economically efficient hybrid energy system, determined through optimization studies. Through this research, it is anticipated that the implementation of such a system will significantly diminish carbon emissions in Kayseri, contributing to a substantial increase in sustainability. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Citation - WoS: 12Citation - Scopus: 18A Comparison of Proactive and Reactive Environmental Strategies in Green Product Innovation(Inderscience Publishers, 2019) Genç, Ebru; Di Benedetto, C. Anthony; Anthony Di Benedetto, C.Companies are exposed to different kinds of pressures to respond to environmental sustainability issues. It is critical to understand how firms integrate environmental issues into their corporate agendas and how these integration strategies affect corporate performance. This paper investigates factors that motivate firms to adopt environmental marketing strategies and their relative impact on green product innovation performance. A comprehensive conceptual framework is developed and tested that portrays the antecedents and consequences of environmental marketing strategy (EMS). The results show that developing environmental strategies that exceed regulations (proactive strategies) leads to better new product performance than those that only adhere to regulations (reactive strategies). In addition, we find that commitment from top management becomes critical only for proactive strategies, not for reactive strategies. Finally, with regard to the consequences, we show that environmental marketing strategies lead to new product advantage and, ultimately, improved sustainable new product performance. © 2021 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Citation - Scopus: 3The Evaluation of the Integration of Industrial Heritage Areas to Urban Landscape: The Case Study Of Sumerbank Kayseri Cotton Factory(Istanbul Teknik Universitesi, Faculty of Architecture itudergisi@itu.edu.tr, 2015) Kevseroğlu, Ozlem; Kubat, Ayşe Sema; Kevseroğlu Durmuş, ÖzlemThe aim of this study is to develop an urban design strategy for the revitalization of post-industrial areas and the railway line in Kayseri–an industrialized city in Central Anatolia, Turkey. With the developments in 1930s, Kayseri became one of the modern cities of the Turkish Republic. In parallel with the world’s history of industrialization, Kayseri Sümerbank Cotton Factory was established in 1935 nearby the rail line in order to benefit from transportation and marketplace facilities. The current design of the Factory is characterized by the hostile layout of the railway tracks, which inhibits pedestrian access and segregates the area from the city center. This segregated circumstance is evaluated and new design strategies are developed with the aim of converting the isolated area into an innovative park design including sustainable, mixed-used functions for creating a pedestrian-friendly environment. The basic concepts and the methods of Space syntax are adapted to develop a new strategy for this Brownfield site by analyzing the relationship between the urban form, the pattern of movement and space use. The proposed design project is an integrated approach to land-use, transportation, green space and sustainable development that will create a framework for the future growth of the City of Kayseri and lead to a vibrant and livable city with an enhanced quality of urban life. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
