Hybrid Power System for Mobile Robotics
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2016-11) Mohammad Sadeghi, Majid; Kececi, Emin Faruk; Sadeghi, Majid Mohammad
The power source is a design characteristic for a mobile robot in which the energy source used must provide enough power for a desired period of time depending on the specific task of a robot. Batteries are the most common power source of energy on mobile robots. Important factors for selecting battery solution as the power source includes weight of the batteries, maximum power availablility, maximum discharge rate, and the endurance of a battery. On the other hand, when the ratio of weight to energy is considered, overall, a gasoline engine is more efficient than a battery power system. This paper explains a design and realization of a hybrid energy system for a mobile robot where a gasoline engine powers an alternator to create electricity and this electrical energy is used to drive and power the electronics of the robot, with the understanding that it can only be used outside. The theory of a gasoline-electrical hybrid power system is explained and later by using a 5.5 horsepower (hp) Loncin engine and a car alternator a hybrid system is designed, manufactured and tested. The test results show the effectiveness of the design. © 2017 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.

Dissolution of Mixed Zinc-Carbon and Alkaline Battery Powders in Sulphuric Acid Using Ascorbic/Oxalic Acid as a Reductant
(Minerals, Metals and Materials Society 184 Thorn Hill Road Warrendale PA 15086, 2012-03-17) Kaya, Muammer; Kursunoglu, Sait
The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of ascorbic (C<inf>6</inf>H<inf>8</inf>O<inf>6</inf>) / oxalic (C<inf>2</inf>H <inf>2</inf>O<inf>4</inf>) acid as a reductant for the simultaneous recovery of zinc and manganese from a spent and mixed zinc-carbon and alkaline battery powder in sulphuric acid leaching. The effects of sulfuric acid concentration, ascorbic/oxalic acid dosages, reaction temperature and leaching time on the zinc and manganese dissolutions were investigated according to 2k full factorial experimental design; then, a simple optimization study was carried out for the best reductant. The optimum reductive acid leaching conditions were determined at 3 hours leaching time, 70°C leaching temperature, 0.5M sulfuric acid concentration, 13 g/L ascorbic acid dosage, 1/20 g/mL solid/liquid ratio and 200 rpm stirring speed. Under these conditions, the dissolution efficiencies were 99.9% for Zn and 99.3% for Mn. When our results were compared with the previous results, our findings were better than previous studies. In addition, the manganese dissolution kinetics was undertaken, and the activation energy was found to be 7.04 kJ/mol. Selective precipitations of Zn and Mn from acid solutions were carried out using NaOH and KOH. Using 3M NaOH as precipitating agent at room temperature and at pH 8; 95.4% of Zn and at pH 10; 93.7% of Mn were precipitated from the leaching solution. Under the same conditions, using 3 M KOH at pH 8; 91.6% of Zn and at pH 10, 96.4% of Mn were precipitated. Based on the experimental results obtained, an appropriate flow sheet was proposed to recover zinc and manganese. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.

Enerji Hasadı ve Sıkıştırmalı Algılama Yapan Gizlilik Odaklı Sualtı Kablosuz Ağlarında Ömür Analizi

Underwater sensor networks (UWSN) are a division of classical wireless sensor networks (WSN), which are designed to accomplish both military and civil operations, such as invasion detection and underwater life monitoring. Underwater sensor nodes operate using the energy provided by integrated limited batteries, and it is a serious challenge to replace the battery under the water especially in harsh conditions with a high number of sensor nodes. Here, energy efficiency confronts as a very important issue. Besides energy efficiency, data privacy is another essential topic since UWSN typically generate delicate sensing data. UWSN can be vulnerable to silent positioning and listening, which is injecting similar adversary nodes into close locations to the network to sniff transmitted data. In this paper, we discuss the usage of compressive sensing (CS) and energy harvesting (EH) to improve the lifetime of the network whilst we suggest a novel encryption decision method to maintain privacy of UWSN. We also deploy a Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) model to optimize the encryption decision cases which leads to an improved network lifetime. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
