However, one key limitation of TextNetTopics is its scoring component, which evaluates each topic in isolation and ranks them accordingly, ignoring the potential relationships between topics. In addition, the chosen topics may contain redundant or irrelevant features, potentially increasing the feature set size and introducing noise that can degrade the overall model performance. To address these limitations and improve the classification performance, this study introduces an enhancement to TextNetTopics. eTNT integrates two novel scoring approaches: Sequential Forward Topic Scoring (SFTS) and Sequential Backward Topic Scoring (SBTS), which consider topic interactions by assessing sets of topics simultaneously. Moreover, it incorporates a filtering component that aims to enhance topics' quality and discriminative power by removing non-informative features from each topic using Random Forest feature importance values. These integrations aim to streamline the topic selection process and enhance classifier efficiency for text classification. In the present study, a novel methodology is proposed to determine the suitable locations for wind turbine farms by analyzing from the environmental perspective. In the methodology, the life cycle assessment (LCA) of wind turbines is incorporated into the decision process. The criteria are ranked using analytical hierarchy process (AHP). The study area is chosen as the western region of Turkiye. The obtained suitability map reveals that wind speed is not the sole criterion for selecting a site for wind turbine farms; other factors, such as bird migration paths, distance from urban areas and land use, are also crucial. The results also reveal that constructing wind power plants in the vicinity of Izmir, canakkale, Istanbul, and Balikesir in Turkiye can lead to a reduction in emissions. Izmir and its surrounding area show the best environmental performance with the lowest CO2 per kilowatt-hour (7.14 g CO2 eq/kWh), to install a wind turbine due to its proximity to the harbor and steel factory across the study area. canakkale and the northwest region of Turkiye, despite having high wind speeds, are less environmentally favorable than Izmir, Balikesir, and Istanbul. The findings of LCA reveal that the nacelle and rotor components of the wind turbine contribute significantly (43-97%) to the environmental impact categories studied, while the tower component (0-36%) also has an impact.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 7Villages in the City - Urban Planning for Neighbourhood Love(Wiley, 2024-03-17) Kourtit, Karima; Nijkamp, Peter; Turk, Umut; Wahlstrom, MiaThe city comprises of a wide variety of heterogeneous territorial units (e.g. districts or neighbourhoods). In many - especially larger - cities, social capital assets (like community bonds) are mirrored at the level of neighbourhoods which form the home for many sociocultural communities or distinct socio-economic classes. We postulate in this study that the big city is essentially an 'archipelago' made up of 'urban villages'. We analyse the residents' perceived attractiveness regarding their daily local neighbourhood by introducing the concept of 'village love' (or 'neighbourhood love'), inspired by the recent literature on 'city love' (comprising 'body', 'soul' and 'community' constituents of urban life). Based on an extensive and detailed multi-annual database for all neighbourhoods in Rotterdam, the present paper seeks to identify the background factors shaping 'village love' in the city, with particular attention to the citizens' subjective appreciation for and access to a great variety of (physical and immaterial) urban amenities shaping the place-based satisfaction of residents. The theoretical framing of our research resembles the basics of traditional central place theory here transmitted to the urban space in which local proximity to amenities plays a key role. A wide array of relevant amenities impacting on the place-specific well-being feelings ('village love') of residents in various neighbourhoods in the city of Rotterdam is distinguished using inter alia-rich multi-annual survey data. This approach is empirically tested and verified by means of LISA statistics and advanced spatial econometric dependence models ('urbanometrics'). The findings confirm the usefulness of a central place interpretation of 'urban village love' in the city. FDI inflows could have ramifications on environmental degradation (ED) despite the enactment of different environmental regulations (ERs) such as market-incentive, command-and-control as well as informal regulations. Though some studies have shown that FDI and ED have significant relationship, the moderating roles of different ERs on the environmental impact of FDI has not been empirically unraveled. This study fills this research gap by analyzing the direct impact of FDI on ED (i.e., carbon dioxide emissions, ecological footprint) using the provincial panel data. Second, it unravels the moderating roles of different ERs on the environmental impact of FDI in the provinces and regions. The results indicate that FDI directly mitigates ED, verifying the pollution halo hypothesis while ERs directly alleviate ED in China. However, the interaction between FDI and ERs do not alleviate ED in China albeit regional heterogeneity exist. The economic implication is that FDI is not a channel through which ERs enhance environmental sustainability in China. Although temperature plays a driving for synthesis of AuNPs, elevated temperature in thermal reduction method causes aggregation of the AuNPs. The preferential, rapid and strong binding of dihydro-lipoic acid and its derivatives on surface of AuNPs via thiol - Au chemistry promote the production of very stable AuNPs. In this study, we have developed citric acid (CA), dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA) and DHLA-Alanine (DHLA-Ala) directed rapid synthesis of ultra-stable AuNPs, DHLA@AuNPs and DHLA-Ala@AuNPs, under the UV (311 nm) irradiation at room temperature (RT: 25 degrees C) in around 10 min (min). CA is used as a potential reducing agent to expedite both reduction of Au3+ ion and AuNP formation, DHLA and DHLA-Ala act as stabilizing agents by replacing CA molecules on surface of AuNPs in order to produce quite stable AuNP. It is worthy to mention that reduction of Au3+ ion, formation and surface stabilization of AuNPs are consequently occurred in one step. We also investigated how experimental parameters including reaction time and temperature, pH of reaction solution, affect formation of the AuNPs. The effects of salt concentration and storage temperature were studied to show stability of the AuNPs. The synthesized DHLA@AuNPs and DHLA-Alanine@AuNPs were characterized via UV-Vis spectrophotometer (UV-Vis), scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and Zeta potential (ZT) devices. Diamond-shaped nano emitter (DNE) structure exhibits four narrow resonant peaks within key absorption windows such as short-wave infrared (SWIR) mid-wave infrared (MWIR), alongside with a wide absorption band in the Non-Transmissive Infrared Range (NTIR) for thermal camouflage applications compatible with radiative cooling. Moreover, the proposed DNE is polarization insensitive as it has an in-plane symmetric design. Using the 3D Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) simulations, we demonstrate the nanoantenna's superior performance characterized by its high absorption rates and tuned effective impedance matching. As of our knowledge, the findings suggest that this is the first time that a MIM structure achieved multiple narrow resonance peaks, located in SWIR and MWIR simultaneously, with a wide absorption range in NTIR. The current study aims to achieve increased efficacy by combining lower doses of cisplatin with increasing concentrations of tomatidine in AML cells to increase efficacy.MethodsAnti-proliferative effects of single and combination of cisplatin and tomatidine were assessed via MTT cell viability assay. The Annexin V/Propidium Iodide Double Staining method was used to measure the apoptotic effects of combined tomatidine and cisplatin treatment. Then, Western Blot analysis was performed to measure Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) and Caspase-3 protein expression levels.ResultsCisplatin treatment with lower concentrations displayed high cytotoxic effects on AML cells, compared with tomatidine. The combination of the Inhibitory Concentration (IC) 20 value of cisplatin and increasing doses of tomatidine exhibited a significant decrease in cell viability relative to single treatments. The combination index analysis revealed a mild synergistic effect of cisplatin IC20 and varying tomatidine doses. The apoptosis induced when cisplatin was combined with 500 mu M tomatidine by almost 20%, while the percentage of apoptosis in combination with 1 mM tomatidine was measured by 50% for both cell lines. The upregulation of proapoptotic cleaved-PARP (3.2 and 1.08-fold for THP-1 and MOLM-13, respectively) and downregulation in Caspase-3 (0.23 and 0.13-fold for THP-1 and MOLM-13, respectively) was detected.ConclusionsTogether, the study indicated that when tomatidine combined with cisplatin on AML cell lines, a combinatorial anti-proliferative and apoptotic effect is observed. Nevertheless, the selection made by individual customers about the washing machine program they opt for carries substantial environmental consequences during the use stage of textile products. According to studies on the life cycle of clothes, it has been established that the use stage, following the extraction of raw materials, exerts the most substantial influence on environmental impacts. The objective of this research is to assess the washing machine programs provided by the manufacturer through the application of a comprehensive systematic approach for analysis. The evaluation of scenarios for washing machine programs was conducted using the MOORA-Ratio multi-criteria decision-making process. This evaluation considered various parameters, including environmental impact and cost. The life cycle assessment methodology was employed to quantify the environmental impact of the specified criteria. Based on the comprehensive study conducted by integrating criteria across numerous dimensions, it has been determined that the most favorable scenario wass scenario 1, which was developed for the Cotton 20 C program. The primary objective of this research endeavor is to fill a significant need in the current body of literature by undertaking a comprehensive review of washing machine programs that have not been previously recorded. It is therefore argued that increased density and mixed-use development are expected to deliver positive outcomes in terms of contributing to three pillars (social, economic, and environmental domains) of sustainability in the subject themes. Territorial quality of life (TQL)-initially proposed by the ESPON Programme-is a composite indicator of the socio-economic and environmental well-being and life satisfaction of individuals living in an area. Understanding the role of urban density in TQL can provide an important input for urban planning debates addressing whether compact development can be promoted by referring to potential efficiencies in high-density, mixed land use and sustainable transport provisions. Alternatively, low-density suburban development is preferable due to its benefits of high per capita land use consumption (larger houses) for individual households given lower land prices. There is little empirical evidence on how TQL is shaped by high-density versus low-density urban forms. This paper investigates this topic through providing an approach to spatially map and examine the relationship between TQL, residential expansion, and densification processes in the so-called NUTS2 (nomenclature of terrestrial units for statistics) regions of European Union (EU) member countries. The relative importance of each TQL indicator was determined through the entropy weight method, where these indicators were aggregated through using the subject weights to obtain the overall TQL indicator. The spatial dynamics of TQL were examined and its relationship with residential expansion and densification processes was analysed to uncover whether the former or the latter process is positively associated with the TQL indicator within our study area. From our regression models, the residential expansion index is negatively related to the TQL indicator, implying that high levels of residential expansion can result in a reduction in overall quality of life in the regions if they are not supported by associated infrastructure and facility investments.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Satisfaction With Healthcare Services in Türkiye(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2024-08) Ugur, Zeynep B.; Durak, AysenurObjectives: This study aims at evaluating whether the healthcare system in Turkey performed well or not from the perspective of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: For this purpose, we compare the satisfaction with healthcare services pre-pandemic and during the pandemic. We utilize the Life Satisfaction Survey conducted by Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) between 2013 and 2021 and employ probit regression method. Results: The research results do not show any change in satisfaction with healthcare services in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021. In addition, the satisfaction with healthcare services of people with health conditions, those without health insurance, and those whose premiums are covered by the state (green card holders) did not decrease during the pandemic period. The analysis results reveal that the satisfaction of people over 65 years old and those having health conditions with healthcare services increased during the pandemic period. Conclusion: When the findings are evaluated as a whole, we can conclude that Turkey performed well from the users' perspective during the pandemic. Public interest summary: This study analyzes the impact of the pandemic on satisfaction with healthcare services in Turkey. To do this, we utilize Life Satisfaction Survey between 2013 and 2021. The regression results indicate that satisfaction with healthcare services has not changed during the pandemic. Moreover, we report an increase in satisfaction scores for elderly and those with health conditions in the pandemic years. We also find satisfaction of people without health insurance, and those whose premiums are covered by the state (green card holders) does not change. Our analysis points Turkey did well in managing pandemic period in terms of healthcare services satisfaction.
