Public space has been one of the most important parts of cities as areas where social change takes place through social communication and interaction throughout history. These areas, like cities, have never shown a static feature; they have constantly changed and transformed by being affected by the social, economic and political conditions of the age. An important pillar of the spatial change and transformation process specific to the city is the creation of land use decisions for public and private spaces through urban administration and planning. It’s essential to be prepared and cautious for any kind of disaster in the land-use decisions. Even though earthquakes are the first thing that comes to mind when natural disasters are considered, the pandemic process caused by The New Type of Coronavirus (2019 nCoV) presents the risks that can be caused by an infectious disease outbreak. Reorganizing public spaces as secure spaces by forming spatial thresholds became an obligation to protect public health and to decrease the risks as much as possible when providing urban security. At this stage, the problem of considering public space usage with regards to design principles from the legal and administrative aspects has emerged. The transformation process of the density concept and spatial thresholds affect the land-use decisions within public space and design principles. In this study, the effect of the pandemic process on urban administration and planning is discussed through public health, public space and spatial threshold concepts.Article Investigation of Antiviral Potential of Food Carotenoids and Apocarotenoids Against RNA-Dependent RNA Polymerase of Hepatitis C Virus(2022-09-30) Fidan, OzkanHepatitis C disease have been a global health threat and affects a significant portion of world population. Hepatitis C have also been a silent health threat for Turkiye, where there are around half million people infected with Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). Disease burden and mortality are expected to increase gradually in the next 20 years in Turkiye. Unavailability of enough data on the currently-available drugs in routine clinical practice, their side effects and interactions with other drugs, and their efficacies on the less common genotypes indicates the necessity of alternative treatment options. Natural products from herbal and medicinal plants can indeed provide an alternative as being drug-like dietary supplements. In particular, the carotenoids and apocarotenoids are underexplored in their antiviral potential, including anti-HCV activities. Therefore, we focused on the virtual screening of various carotenoids and apocarotenoids against the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) of HCV. Molecular docking experiments showed strong binding affinities of the ligands to both palm and thumb domains of RdRp of HCV. In fact, some of them such as neoxanthin, crocin, canthaxanthin and cryptoflavin bound quite strongly to both domains compared to native ligands and current antiviral drugs. MD simulation for neoxanthin-RdRp complex confirmed the stability of the ligand within the binding cavity of RdRp throughout 100 ns simulation. This clearly indicated the potential of carotenoids, specifically neoxanthin, as RdRp inhibitor in treating HCV. Thus, this study not only discovered anti-HCV drug candidates with the properties of easy-to-access and low cost, but also paved the way for the development of carotenoid or apocarotenoid based dietary supplement candidates for the prevention and treatment of HCV.Article Comparative Performance Analysis of Arima, Prophet and Holt-Winters Forecasting Methods on European Covid-19 Data(2022-12-31) Bakir-gungor, Burcu; Ersöz, Nur Şebnem; Şahan, Pınar Güner; Akbaş, AyhanCOVID-19 son yılların en bulaşıcı hastalığıdır ve dünyanın her yerinde salgına neden olmuştur. Daha önce yüzlerce olan ölüm oranı önce binlere, sonra milyonlara yükselmiştir. Ocak 2020'den beri birçok bilim insanı, hükümetlerin hastanelerde yeterli düzenlemeleri yapabilmesi ve ölüm oranını azaltılabilmesi için COVID-19’un yayılımını anlamaya ve tahminlemeye çalışıyor. Bu araştırma makalesi, Avrupa’daki COVID-19 hastalık epidemiyolojisi için tahminler yapmak amacıyla, ARIMA, Prophet ve Holt Winters Üstel Düzeltme yöntemlerinin performans karşılaştırmasını sunmaktadır. Veri seti olarak, Dünya Sağlık Örgütü (DSÖ)'nün toplayıp kategorize ettiği, Avrupa ülkelerinin 2020 ile 2022 yılları arasındaki COVID-19 vaka verileri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, Holt-Winters Üstel Düzeltme (RMSE: 0.20, MAE: 0.17) yönteminin, ARIMA ve Prophet tahmin yöntemlerinden daha iyi performans gösterdiğini belirtmektedir.
