Article Cultural Origins of Business Formation(Erhan AYDIN, 2024) Gökmen, Seyit; 0009-0006-8451-9513; AGÜ, Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme Bölümü; Gökmen, SeyitThis paper presents a conceptual framework connecting historical kinship structures and generalized trust into modern business formation. Kinship intensity, defined as the degree of strength in family ties, is shaping the social and economic outlook of societies. Building upon the existing literature, I argue that societies with strong kinship ties often exhibit collectivist characteristics, leading to less trust towards outsiders. This hinders market efficiency and collaborative partnerships, resulting in business formation being largely confined to family-owned enterprises. Conversely, societies with loose kinship structures exhibits higher level of generalized trust that enable to promote engagements beyond family networks. This promotes establishing larger firms with strangers, more efficient markets, and greater cooperation with foreign firms. The paper suggests that kinship and trust behavior are deeply rooted in culture and influence social and economic development. The idea of "green logistics," which is focused on carrying out economically sensible environmental activities when producing goods and services, has gained significant relevance for this reason. Transportation activity is one of the most basic costs of logistics activity. Due to the fuels used in transportation and the greenhouse gases released, it has become vital to develop and implement sustainable and green energy policies in logistics activities. Green logistics has become one of the areas that needs to be emphasized. A metaheuristic is presented and proposed to solve the vehicle routing problem, which is a type of vehicle routing problem involved in optimizing simultaneous pickup and delivery considering carbon emissions in logistics activities. This paper presents a variant of flow shop scheduling problem with parallel machines. The proposed problem includes multistage and identical parallel machines at each stage, and the sequence-dependent setup time and transportation time are considered. The objective function is minimization of makespan. The particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) is addressed to solve the problem and compared with genetic algorithm and heuristics. The benchmark instances are generated to demonstrate the performance of the PSO. Transportation network design is an important part of effective supply chain management. This chapter presents the two-stage fixed-charge transportation problem in a supply chain to minimize the total cost containing the opening cost of distribution centers, transportation cost from manufacture to distribution centers and from distribution centers to customers, and fixed cost for transportation from distribution centers to customers. There are the capacity constraints on distribution centers in order to consider real life situations in this chapter. A constructive based algorithm and a population-based algorithm are proposed to solve this complex optimization problem. Taguchi experimental design is applied for determining the best combinations of parameters. The experimental studies are conducted to compare the performance of the proposed algorithms according to solution quality.Article Pay Geri Alım Programlarında Firma Büyüklüğü Etkisi: Borsa İstanbul Üzerine Bir Uygulama(İŞLETME ARAŞTIRMALARI DERGİSİ/JOURNAL OF BUSINESS RESEARCH-TURK, 2023) Torun , Rana; Karan, Mehmet Baha; 0000-0002-4776-4011; AGÜ, Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme Bölümü; Torun, RanaAmaç – Çalışmada, Borsa İstanbul’da payları işlem gören şirketlerin 2018-2021 yılları arasında pay geri alım programı başlatılmasına dair Kamu Aydınlatma Platformu’na yapmış oldukları 74 adet duyurunun pay getirilerini etkileyip etkilemediği ve pay piyasasının yarı-güçlü formda etkin olup olmadığının incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Ayrıca, firmaların aktif büyüklüğü göz önünde bulundurularak pay geri alım programlarına verilen tepkilerin karşılaştırılarak analiz edilmesi de amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem – Çalışmada Etkin Piyasalar Hipotezi temel alınmış ve olay çalışması yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Borsada işlem gören şirketlere pay geri alım izninin verildiği 2011 yılından sonraki dönem olan 2018- 2021 yıllarını kapsayan 4 yılın analize dahil edildiği bu çalışmada, her bir şirket için pay geri alım programı bildiriminin yapıldığı gün (t0) olay günü olarak belirlenmiştir. Olay çalışması kapsamında olay penceresi aralığı (t-20, t+20) olmak üzere 41 işgünü, tahmin penceresi aralığı ise (t-20, t-120) arasındaki 101 iş günüdür. Çalışmada, piyasa modeli tahmin modeli olarak kullanılmış olup piyasa getirisini ölçmek için BİST 100 Endeksinin getirisinden, şirketlerin pay getirileri için ise her bir şirketin pay getirisinden yararlanılmıştır. Bulgular – Elde edilen bulgular, olay penceresi aralığında pozitif anormal getirilerin elde edilebildiğini göstermiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, ele alınan dönem için pay geri alım programı duyurularının Borsa İstanbul Pay Piyasasının etkilediği ve piyasanın yarı-güçlü formda etkin bir piyasa olmadığı gözlemlenmiştir. Ek olarak, küçük firmalar tarafından yapılan duyurular sonucunda elde edilen anormal getirinin %5 ve %10 anlamlılık düzeylerinde anlamlı olduğu bulgulamıştır. Tartışma – Çalışmada, Borsa İstanbul Pay piyasasının Etkin Piyasalar Hipotezi’ne göre yarı güçlü formda etkin bir şekilde faaliyette bulunmadığı belirlenmiştir. Dolasıyla, pay geri alım programlarına ilişkin bilgilerin pay fiyatlarına hızlı bir şekilde yansımadığı ve yatırımcıların bu bilgileri kullanılarak anormal getiri elde etme olasılığına sahip olduğu görülmüştür. This paper presents a bibliometric study and in-depth research on the most recent advancements in the "Industry 4.0" field. The top 10 most cited publications and authors, main research areas, publications, and countries are all examined as part of the bibliometric study, which also extracts data on the overall number of publications and citations. The organizational transformation highlighted in the publications is then examined after a detailed analysis of the most cited publications. In this study, mathematical programming-based cluster analysis has been conducted to group the regions in Türkiye according to sectoral employment rates. A mixed integer mathematical model is presented that maximizes the smallest of the out-of-cluster distances while minimizing the largest within-cluster distance. Level 2- 26 sub-regions in Türkiye are clustered according to sectoral employment data for 2021 and 2022. As a result, two clusters were obtained for both years in our country according to employment status by gender on a sectoral basis. One of these clusters is where the employment rate of the agricultural sector is higher than other sectors, and the other is where the employment rate of the industrial and service sectors is higher. When the 2021 and 2022 clusters are compared, in total, TR22, TR32, TR33, TRC3; in men, TR21, TR22, TR32, TR52, TR81; In women, it was observed that TRC1 regions were assigned to different clusters. Alliances, in many cases, end in acquisitions as firms use alliances as intermediate strategic options to eventually acquire a partner. As the discipline of strategy matures and the frequency and the volume of inter-firm cooperation continue to rise, it is imperative to integrate these two research streams for a holistic understanding of the theory of the firm. The purpose of this conceptual piece is threefold. First, we review the extant studies that combine these two governance modes: alliance and acquisitions. Second, drawing on the dominant strategic management theories, we highlight how prior inter-firm alliances inform future acquisitions in terms of (a) pre-combination decisions, (b) post-deal integration processes, (c) alternatives and strategies, and (d) performance outcomes. Finally, in view of the emerging trends and evocative gaps, we offer a conceptual road map to encourage future theoretical development and empirical research. This empirical study presents a comparative framework to identify a set of intangible factors that differentiate the long-term competitiveness of acquirers engaging in both of these types of acquisitions. Building on the information asymmetry logic, we find that access to accurate information, acquirers’ research and development (R&D) intensity, and similarity between the acquirer and the target play a vital role in determining the overall competitiveness of acquirers. Using a sample of all the M&As that occurred between 1985 and 2007 and applying a matching control methodology, sound comparisons are made to draw conclusions. From a theoretical standpoint, the findings help generalise the importance of intangible factors from the contextual, acquirer-centric, and dyadic angles. United Nations members may perform activities to achieve the predetermined goals and report on their SDG activities. The comprehension and commitment of several stakeholders are essential for the effective implementation of the SDGs. Countries encourage their stakeholders to perform and report their activities to meet the SDGs. The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which corporations’ annual reports address the SDGs to assess and comprehend their level of commitment to, priority of and integration of SDGs within their reporting structure. This research makes it easier to evaluate corporations’ sustainability performance and contributions to global sustainability goals by looking at the extent to which they address the SDGs. Design/methodology/approach – In the study, it is revealed to what extent the reports meet the SDGs with the multilabel text classification approach. The SDG classification is carried out by examining the report with the help of a text analysis tool based on an enhanced version of gradient boosting. The implementation of a machine learning-based model allowed it to determine which SDGs are associated with the company’s operations without the requirement for the report’s authors to perform so. Therefore, instead of reading the texts to seek for ‘‘SDG’’ evidence as typically occurs in the literature, SDG proof was searched in relevant texts. Findings – To show the feasibility of the study, the annual reports of the leading companies in Turkey are examined, and the results are interpreted. The study produced results including insights into the sustainable practices of businesses, priority SDG selection, benchmarking and business comparison, gaps and improvement opportunities identification and representation of the SDGs’ importance. Originality/value – The findings of the analysis of annual reports indicate which SDGs they are concerned about. A gap in the literature can be noticed in the analysis of annual reports of companies that fall under a particular framework. In addition, it has sparked the idea of conducting research on a global scale and in a time series. The current study addresses this gap by examining the complex relationship between perceived social media interactivity, brand trust, perceived social media agility, and brand value. To further unpack these complex relationships, the current study investigates the role of gender as a moderating variable on the moderation efect of brand value between perceived social media interactivity and perceived social media agility. In this regard, an online survey (N=275) was conducted to measure the constructs of interest. PROCESS Models 1, 3, and 4 were used to test the research hypotheses. The results show that individuals perceive highly interactive brands as more agile on social media, leading to high brand trust levels. The results also indicate that the positive link between perceived social media interactivity and perceived social media agility is contingent on consumers’ perceived brand value. The results further display that the conditional efect of perceived social media interactivity on perceived social media agility as a function of brand value is moderated by consumers’ gender. However, short phases of clinical trials for emer-gency use and myriad rumors about and misinformation on vaccines spread through different media sources, induce confusion and trigger vaccine hesitancy behavior. Although clinical trials demonstrated promising results in the ability of vaccines to protect, social endeavor is required for vaccines to succeed. Mitigation of the pandemic is only possible through widespread acceptance of the vaccine. Thus, identifying the factors that impact vaccine intake is crucial. This study determined factors that affect intentions toward vaccination using a mixed-method approach, in which qualitative and quantitative analyses were conducted together. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used in the quantitative study, and content analysis is employed in the quali-tative study. The final sample of this mixed-method study consists of 568 participants for the quantitative study and 237 for the qualitative study. They were selected using an online questionnaire. Findings suggest that social, psychological, attitudinal, perceptual, and informational factors play a crucial role in shaping peo-ple's intentions toward vaccines, ultimately influencing their decision to accept or reject vaccination. Results of both the qualitative and quantitative studies, in parallel with each other, indicated similar barriers against and drivers toward vaccine intake behavior, providing strong insights into the reasons behind vaccine accep-tance and hesitancy. The aim of this study is to develop and empirically assess a general measurement model of perceived personalization. Multiple data gathering processes and rigorous empirical testing procedures are employed to assess and validate the proposed measurement model. The perceived personalization scale developed in the study rests on the focus of what is personalized and includes three main categories: (1) individuallevel, (2) social-level, and (3) situation-based personalization. A multidimensional measure of personalization is developed based on these categories and is validated via several tests, including a test of nomological validity exploring the effects of perceived personalization on critical customer responses such as positive emotions, negative emotions, perceived sincerity, satisfaction, and behavioral intentions. Bundan dolayı geleneksel medya kanallarında yapılan tutundurma çabaları sorgulanır hale gelirken, sosyal medya ortamları reklam, halkla ilişkiler vb. alanlarda etkili iletişim stratejilerinin üretilmesinde giderek daha fazla önem kazanmaya başlamıştır. Although misconception is one of the roots of conflicts is somehow accepted, especially by the practitioners, there are not many empirical studies conducted to investigate if there is a relationship between misconception and conflicts. This study is prepared on a small scale as a starting point. To explore the subject better case study methodology is used. Two different studies conducted to be able to compare and analyze the situation among the groups. One group is taken as in-group and the other group is taken as out-group. This study's findings revealed that misconception leads to conflict at workplaces and to a hostile work environment. "We vs. them" situation among the groups and intergroup conflicts are observed. Heuristic algorithms along with dispatching rulesanddispatching rules are used to solve the given problem. The objective function is minimization makespan. Thecomputational experimets are conducted to test the performance of the heuristic algoirthms and dispatching rules.In order to depict the effect of the factors: number of jobs, number of machines, number of production stages, levelof missing operations on the result, the additiol experimentes are carried out. Yeşil tedarikçi seçimi, yeşil tedarik zinciri yönetiminde rol alan önemli faktörlerdendir.Yeşil tedarikçi seçiminde ekonomik ve çevresel kriterler birlikte ele alınmaktadır. Yeşil tedarikçi seçimproblemleri belirsizlik içerdiğinden karar vericilerin dilsel ifadelerle görüşlerini belirtebilecekleri bulanık kümeteorisi kullanılmaktadır. Yeşil tedarikçi seçim probleminde, birden fazla alternatif birden fazla kritere göredeğerlendirildiğinden, çok kriterli karar verme yöntemleri bu problemin çözümü için oldukça uygundur. Buçalışmanın temel amacı, nicel verilerin yetersiz olduğu yeşil tedarikçi seçim ortamında, önerilen çözümyöntemini kullanarak yeşil tedarikçi seçimini gerçekleştirmektir. Önerilen modelde, yeşil tedarikçi sıralamasıBulanık TOPSİS, Bulanık Vikor, Bulanık Gri İlişkisel Analiz, Bulanık Aras yöntemleri ile elde edilmiştir.Tedarikçi seçim ve değerlendirme kriter ağırlıkları bulanık SWARA yöntemiyle belirlenmiş ve bilgi kaybınınolmasını önlemek için çok kriterli karar verme problemlerinde de kriter ağırlıkları bulanık sayı olarakkullanılmıştır. Önerilen çözüm modeli, orta ölçekli şehir mobilya üretimi gerçekleştiren bir işletmenin yeşiltedarikçi seçim sürecine uygulanmıştır. Bu uygulama için yapılan hesaplamalar neticesinde dört yöntemden aynıtedarikçi sıralaması elde edilmiştir. Çalışmada kullanılan dört çok kriterli karar verme yönteminin temel vekavramsal özellikleri değerlendirilmiştir. Bu problem için gri ilişkisel analiz yönteminin daha uygun olduğusonucuna varılmıştır.
