Yenilenebilir Enerji Sistemlerinde Makine Öğrenmesi ile Tahmin Yapılması
Abstract
Urban energy planning requires highly accurate forecasting frameworks to balance increasing electricity demand with renewable energy integration. This thesis presents a multi-dimensional, data-driven predictive methodology to forecast monthly electricity consumption and photovoltaic generation potential in Eskişehir, Türkiye. Diverging from conventional climate-only deterministic models, the feature space of this study was significantly expanded to incorporate macroeconomic drivers and thermodynamic modifiers alongside Heating and Cooling Degree Days. Various predictive architectures, including classical statistical time-series, machine learning, novel hybrid ensembles, and deep learning, were trained and evaluated using historical datasets from 2016 to 2023. To ensure the prevention of any temporal data leakages and maximize the robustness of the results, the non-linear algorithms were subject to the Grid Search Cross Validation using the Time Series Split mechanism. From the empirical results obtained on the isolated 2023 test set, it is evident that the optimized machine learning architectures were able to outperform the linear baselines. The research work also carried out long-term projections for the period 2024 to 2030. Using the novel 'Historical Extreme Based Scenario Generation' methodology. Notably, macro-economic growth is kept constant in all scenarios. The results have significant policy implications for local DSOs, emphasizing the fact that extreme climate events control the essential stresses on the grid independently of urban growth, thus emphasizing the need for proactive upgrades in the infrastructure and solar-battery investments for peak shaving in summer.
