Article Citation - Scopus: 414The Moderating Role of Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy in Environment-Income Nexus for Asean Countries: Evidence From Method of Moments Quantile Regression(Elsevier Ltd, 2021-02) Anwar, Ahsan; Siddique, Muhammad; Dogan, Eyup; Sharif, Arshian AslamA vast body of studies estimates the impact of energy consumption on the environment. A typical empirical study either use aggregate energy consumption or apply conventional econometric techniques in modelling the nexus of energy, income and environment. To correct these gaps, the objective of the study is to use renewable and non-renewable energy consumption in analyzing energy-income-environment nexus, and to apply the novel Method of Moments Quantile Regression for ASEAN countries. The outcomes indicate that non-renewable energy consumption stimulate carbon emissions across all quantiles (10th to 90th), the value of the 10th quantile is 0.257 which rises to 0.501 till 90th quantile. Whereas, the renewable energy consumption leads to a decrease in CO<inf>2</inf> emissions across all the quantiles (10th to 90th) but this association is statistically insignificant at higher quantiles from 60th to 90th. The empirical outcomes also verify the presence of the environmental Kuznets curve relationship, which is statistically significant from the middle (30th) to higher (90th) quantiles. Moreover, the finding of panel estimation approaches (FMOLS, DOLS, FE-OLS) also verify the existence of the EKC hypothesis in ASEAN countries. Their finding also describes that 1% increase in non-renewable energy consumption increase CO<inf>2</inf> emission by 0.29%, 0.26% and 0.30% whereas 1% increase in the usage of renewable energy reduces CO<inf>2</inf> emission by 0.17%, 0.15% and 0.17% in case of FMOLS, DOLS and FE-OLS respectively. The empirical results conclude that the government should encourage and subsidize the sources of green energy to tackle environmental degradation. More policy implications are further discussed in the study. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Book Part Hosting Capacity Calculation Methods(Elsevier, 2025) Oguzhan, Ceylan; Alper, SavasciIn this chapter, we focus on hosting capacity (HC) calculations, by giving the methods to determine the maximum amount of distributed energy resources (DER) that can be integrated into power distribution network(s) without compromising reliability or performance. We detail methodologies such as power flow-based approaches, probabilistic techniques, and machine learning algorithms, with sample applications of HC calculations. Initially, we focus on power flow-based methods based on simulating power distribution network(s) to assess system voltage, current flow, and stability impacts from DER installations. Then, we will give the probabilistic approaches that use uncertainties in renewable generation and consumer demand, based on statistical techniques and Monte Carlo simulations aiming to reflect these variability. Machine learning (ML) techniques will also be given based on analyzing large data sets, detecting patterns, and predicting system responses. These kinds of methods include regression analysis and neural networks trained on historical data for optimized HC predictions. It should be stated that HC is impacted by several factors, such as network topology, load profiles, and DER characteristics, and these as well will be discussed. We will provide a practical example of an HC calculation on a 141-node distribution network using a step-by-step algorithm in Matpower, with simulation results based on an iterative deterministic method. Then, we will give the broader implications of HC assessments for grid modernization and energy policy, highlighting how accurate calculations support a more decentralized, sustainable, and resilient energy future. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Citation - WoS: 34Citation - Scopus: 37Determination of Stress-Strain Relationship Based on Alkali Activator Ratios in Geopolymer Concretes and Development of Empirical Formulations(Elsevier Science Inc, 2023-02) Ozbayrak, Ahmet; Kucukgoncu, Hurmet; Atas, Oguzhan; Aslanbay, Huseyin Hilmi; Aslanbay, Yuksel Gul; Altun, FatihFly ash-based geopolymer has recently gained attention of researchers due to its potential application, as well as being an alternative binder with low emissions compared to ordinary Portland cement (OPC) in concrete production. Studies which are conducted on the design and mechanical properties of structural members produced from fly ash geopolymer concrete (GPC) are very important in terms of increasing the use of this concrete. The aim of this study is to obtain experimental data on the effect of sodium silicate/sodium hydroxide (SS/SH) and alkali activators/fly ash (AA/FA) ratios on the mechanical properties of a low calcium heat-cured fly ash geopolymer. In addition, it is to reveal the similarities and differences of OPC and GPC by comparing the mathematical formulations in existing regulations and concrete models with experimental data. Thus, geopolymer cylinder concrete samples were produced using 15 different mixtures with SS/SH ratios of 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5, while AA/FA ratios of 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8. At the end of the study, the optimum SS/SH ratio was obtained as 2.5. A decrease in the AA/FA ratio increases the compressive and splitting tensile strength, while an increment increases the ductility and consuming energy. In addition, the relationship between the experimental data and the splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity formulations depending on the compressive strength given in other studies and regulations as a part of literature was investigated, and then, two alternative empirical formulations considering the ratios of alkali activators were proposed at the end of the regression analysis. When the stress-strain relationship of OPC concrete models and GPC mixtures were compared, the closest unconfined concrete model for GPC concrete was the Hognestad model.Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 10Assessment of Deformation Properties of CoAl Measure Sandstones Through Regression Analyses and Artificial Neural Networks(Polska Akad Nauk, Polish Acad Sciences, 2023-07-24) Koken, EkinThe deformation properties of rocks play a crucial role in handling most geomechanical problems. However, the determination of these properties in laboratory is costly and necessitates special equipment. Therefore, many attempts were made to estimate these properties using different techniques. In this study, various statistical and soft computing methods were employed to predict the tangential Young Modulus (Eti, GPa) and tangential Poisson's Ratio (vti) of coal measure sandstones located in Zonguldak Hardcoal Basin (ZHB), NW Turkey. Predictive models were established based on various regression and artificial neural network (ANN) analyses, including physicomechanical, mineralogical, and textural properties of rocks. The analysis results showed that the mineralogical features such as the contents of quartz (Q, %) and lithic fragment (LF, %) and the textural features (i.e., average grain size, d50, and sorting coefficient, Sc) have remarkable impacts on deformation properties of the investigated sandstones. By comparison with these features, the mineralogical effects seem to be more effective in predicting the Eti and vti. The performance of the established models was assessed using several statistical indicators. The predicted results from the proposed models were compared to one another. It was concluded that the empirical models based on the ANN were found to be the most convenient tools for evaluating the deformational properties of the investigated sandstones.Conference Object Evaluation of Hybrid Classification Approaches: Case Studies on Credit Datasets(Springer Verlag service@springer.de, 2018) Cetiner, Erkan; Güngör, Vehbi Çağrı; Kocak, TaskinHybrid classification approaches on credit domain are widely used to obtain valuable information about customer behaviours. Single classification algorithms such as neural networks, support vector machines and regression analysis have been used since years on related area. In this paper, we propose hybrid classification approaches, which try to combine several classifiers and ensemble learners to boost accuracy on classification results. We worked with two credit datasets, German dataset which is a public dataset and a Turkish Corporate Bank dataset. The goal of using such diverse datasets is to search for generalization ability of proposed model. Results show that feature selection plays a vital role on classification accuracy, hybrid approaches which shaped with ensemble learners outperform single classification techniques and hybrid approaches which consists SVM has better accuracy performance than other hybrid approaches. © 2018 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
