Book Part Citation - Scopus: 3Deep Learning Based Formation Control of Drones(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2021) Kabore, Kader Monhamady; Guler, SametRobot swarms can accomplish demanding missions fast, efficiently, and accurately. For a robust operation, robot swarms need to be equipped with reliable localization algorithms. Usually, the global positioning system (GPS) and motion capture cameras are employed to provide robot swarms with absolute position data with high precision. However, such infrastructures make the robots dependent on certain areas and hence reduce robustness. Thus, robots should have onboard localization capabilities to demonstrate a swarm behavior in challenging scenarios such as GPS-denied environments. Motivated by the need for a reliable onboard localization framework for robot swarms, we present a distance and vision-based localization algorithm integrated into a distributed formation control framework for three-drone systems. The proposed approach is established upon the bearing angles and the relative distances between the pairs of drones in a cyclic formation where each drone follows its coleader. We equip each drone with a monocular camera sensor and derive the bearing angle between a drone and its coleader with the recently developed deep learning algorithms. The onboard measurements are then relayed back to the formation control algorithm in which every drone computes its control action in its own frame based on its neighbors only, forming a completely distributed architecture. The proposed approach enables three-drone systems to perform in coordination indepen- dent of any external infrastructure. We validate the performance of our approach in a realistic simulation environment. © 2021 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 6Deep Learning Based Employee Attrition Prediction(Springer International Publishing AG, 2023) Gurler, Kerem; Pak, Burcu Kuleli; Gungor, Vehbi CagriEmployee attrition is a critical issue for the business sectors as leaving employees cause various types of difficulties for the company. Some studies exist on examining the reasons for this phenomenon and predicting it with Machine Learning algorithms. In this paper, the causes for employee attrition is explored in three datasets, one of them being our own novel dataset and others obtained from Kaggle. Employee attrition was predicted with multiple Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms with feature selection and hyperparameter optimization and their performances are evaluated with multiple metrics. Deep Learning methods showed superior performances in all of the datasets we explored. SMOTE Tomek Links were utilized to oversample minority classes and effectively tackle the problem of class imbalance. Best performing methods were Deep Random Forest on HR Dataset from Kaggle and Neural Network for IBM and Adesso datasets with F1 scores of 0.972, 0.642 and 0.853, respectively.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4Camera-Based Wildfire Smoke Detection for Foggy Environments(SPIE - Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, 2022-10-27) Tas, Merve; Tas, Yusuf; Balki, Oguzhan; Aydin, Zafer; Tasdemir, Kasim; Aydln, ZaferSmoke is the first visible sign of forest fires and the most commonly used feature for early forest fire detection using data from cameras. However, one of the natural challenges is the dense fog that appears in forests, which decreases the detection accuracy or triggers false alarms. In this study, we propose a system with a deep neural network-based image preprocessing approach that significantly improves the smoke segmentation and classification performance by dehazing the camera view. Our experimental results provide that the classification models reach 99% F1 score for the correct classification of smoke when the image dehazing method is used before the training process. The smoke localization system achieves 60% average precision when the mask region-based convolutional neural network is used with the ResNet101-FPN backbone. The proposed approach can be utilized for all smoke segmentation frameworks to increase fire detection performance. As it can be performed over textual data, working on visual data elements is also critically substantial to examining the current emotional status. In this effort, the aim is to investigate any potential enhancements in sentiment analysis predictions through visual instances by integrating textual data as additional knowledge reflecting the contextual information of the images. Thus, two separate models have been developed as image-processing and text-processing models in which both models were trained on distinct datasets comprising the same five human emotions. Following, the outputs of the individual models' last dense layers are combined to construct the hybrid multimodel empowered by visual and textual components. The fundamental focus is to evaluate the performance of the hybrid model in which the textual knowledge is concatenated with visual data. Essentially, the hybrid model achieved nearly a 3% F1-score improvement compared to the plain image classification model utilizing convolutional neural network architecture. In essence, this research underscores the potency of fusing textual context with visual information to refine sentiment analysis predictions. The findings not only emphasize the potential of a multi-modal approach but also spotlight a promising avenue for future advancements in emotion analysis and understanding.
