Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Polyp Localization in Colonoscopy Images Using Vessel Density(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018-11) Doǧan, Refika Sultan; Yilmaz, BulentIn this paper, we present a new approach for polyp localization in colonoscopy images. This approach is based on the determination of the polyp location using the vessel density in colon images. Primarily, we used pre-processing procedures on the colon images, and then blood vessel extraction techniques were employed. Later, segmentation of the vessel boundaries was performed. With the help of vessel boundaries we calculated the vessel density, and used this for the localization of the polyps. We tested the success of this approach using a publicly available image set (CVC-ClinicDB database). This database consisted of 612 images from 29 different polyps. This approach succeeds in correct detection of 24 out of 29 different polyps. © 2019 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 8Constructing Structural Profiles for Protein Torsion Angle Prediction(SciTePress, 2015) Aydin, Zafer; Baker, David A.; Noble, William StaffordStructural frequency profiles provide important constraints on structural aspects of a protein and is receiving a growing interest in the structure prediction community. In this paper, we introduce new techniques for scoring templates that are later combined to form structural profiles of 7-state torsion angles. By employing various parameters of target-template alignments we improve the quality and accuracy of structural profiles considerably. The most effective technique is the scaling of templates by integer powers of sequence identity score in which the power parameter is adjusted with respect to the similarity interval of the target. Incorporating other alignment scores as multiplicative factors further improves the accuracy of profiles. After analyzing the individual strengths of various structural profile methods, we combine them with ab-initio predictions of 7-state torsion angles by a linear committee approach. We show that incorporating template information improves the accuracy of ab-initio predictions significantly at all levels of target-template similarity even when templates are distant from the target. Template scaling methods developed in this work can be applied in many other prediction tasks and in more advanced methods designed for computing structural profiles. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 5Emotion Detection Using Multivariate Synchrosqueezing Transform via 2D Circumplex Model(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Ozel, Pinar; Akan, Aydin; Yilmaz, Bulent; Özel, Pınar; Akan, Aydin I.; Yilmaz, BulentEmotion detection by utilizing signal processing methods is a challenging area. An open issue in emotional modeling is to obtain an optimum feature set to use for the classification process. This study proposes an approach for emotional state classification by the investigation of EEG signals via multivariate synchrosqueezing transform (MSST). MSST is a post-processing technique to compose a localized time-frequency representation yielding multivariate syncyrosqueezing coefficients. After obtaining these coefficients from EEG signals for 18 subjects from DEAP dataset, coefficients and self-assessment-mannequins (SAM) labels of those subjects are used for emotional state classification by using support vector machines (SVM) nearest neighbor, decision tree, and ensemble methods. The accuracy rate is 70.6% for high valence high arousal (HVHA), 75.4% for low valence high arousal (LVHA), 77.8% for high valence low arousal (HVLA), and 77.2% for low valence low arousal (LVLA) cases using SVM. © 2019 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
