Chaos in PID Controlled Nonlinear Systems
(Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, 2015) Ablay, G.
Controlling nonlinear systems with linear feedback control methods can lead to chaotic behaviors. Order increase in system dynamics due to integral control and control parameter variations in PID controlled nonlinear systems are studied for possible chaos regions in the closed-loop system dynamics. The Lur’e form of the feedback systems are analyzed with Routh’s stability criterion and describing function analysis for chaos prediction. Several novel chaotic systems are generated from second-order nonlinear systems including the simplest continuous-time chaotic system. Analytical and numerical results are provided to verify the existence of the chaotic dynamics. © 2021 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.

Cascade Control of Magnetic Levitation with Sliding Modes
    (EDP Sciences edps@edpsciences.com, 2016) Eroǧlu, Y.; Ablay, G.
The effectiveness and applicability of magnetic levitation systems need precise feedback control designs. A cascade control approach consisting of sliding mode control plus sliding mode control (SMC plus SMC) is designed to solve position control problem and to provide a high control performance and robustness to the magnetic levitation plant. It is shown that the SMC plus SMC cascade controller is able to eliminate the effects of the inductance related uncertainties of the electromagnetic coil of the plant and achieve a robust and precise position control. Experimental and numerical results are provided to validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the method. © 2016 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.

Π-Conjugated Donor-Acceptor Small Molecule Thin-Films on Gold Electrodes for Reducing the Metal Work-Function
(Elsevier Science SA, 2016-10) Azum, Naved; Taib, Layla Ahmad; Al Angari, Yasser Mohammed; Asiri, Abdullah M.; Denti, Mitchel; Zhao, Wei; Facchetti, Antonio
This paper reports the design, facile synthesis and purification of four pi-conjugated donor-acceptor small molecules comprising heteroaromatic units, DA-1-DA-4, for surface and electronic structure modification of gold thin film. These molecules were characterized by H-1/C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Morphologically smooth thin-films (similar to 5 nm) of DA-1-DA-4 were deposited onto Au thin films via thermal evaporation and characterized by atomic force microscopy, theta-2 theta X-ray diffraction and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. The work functions of the small molecule coated Au electrodes are shifted to lower energies by similar to 0.1-03 eV, compared to that of the bare Au film measured as a reference. The vapor-deposition of structurally, simple small molecules developed here shows great promise as a facile approach to reduce gold work function for electron injection/extraction between organic semiconductors and Au contacts in various opto-electronic devices. pH- and Temperature-Responsive Amphiphilic Diblock Copolymers of 4-Vinylpyridine and Oligoethyleneglycol Methacrylate Synthesized by RAFT Polymerization
(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2014-01) Topuzogullari, Murat; Bulmus, Volga; Dalgakiran, Eray; Dincer, Sevil
Diblock copolymers of 4-vinylpyridine (4VP) and oligoethyleneglycol methyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA) were synthesized for the first time using RAFT polymerization technique as potential drug delivery systems. Effects of the number of ethylene glycol units in OEGMA, chain length of hydrophobic P4VP block, pH, concentration and temperature on the solution behavior of the copolymers were investigated comprehensively. Copolymer chains formed micelles at pH values higher than 5 whereas unimeric polymers were observed to exist below pH 5, owing to the repulsion between positively charged P4VP blocks. The size of the micelles was dependent on the relative length of blocks, P4VP and POEGMA. Thermo-responsive properties of copolymers were investigated depending on the pH and length of P4VP block. The increase in the length of P4VP block decreased the LCST substantially at pH 7. At pH 3, LCST of copolymers shifted to higher temperatures due to the increased interaction of copolymers with water through positively charged P4VP block. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Zeolite Synthesis by Alkali Fusion Method Using Two Different Fly Ashes Derived From Turkish Thermal Power Plants
(Chamber of Mining Engineers of Turkey, 2020-03-01) Top, S.; Vapur, Hüseyin
In this study, Faujasite (Na-LSX) (3.5(Ca0.3)3.5(Na0.6)3.5(Mg0.1)Al7Si17O48 32(H2O)) type zeolites and Ca-Filipsite (CaK0.6Na0.4Si5.2Al2.8O16 6(H2O)) type zeolites were produced from Sugözü Thermal Power Plant and Çatalaǧzi Thermal Power Plant fly ashes by alkali fusion method followed by water leaching, respectively. In these methods, fly ashes and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) were mixed in certain proportions and sintered at 600°C in ash furnace. Then, zeolites were obtained from the ground materials after water leaching and solid/liquid separation, respectively. Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) analyses were used to characterize the synthesized zeolites. The zeolites synthesized with Sugözü fly ashes in a ratio of 1:2 had 136.93 meq/100 g CEC, whereas the CEC of synthesized zeolite from Çatalaǧzi fly ashes was found to be 247.88 meq/100 g. As a result, zeolites, which can be used as wastewater treatment agent, energy storage material, catalyst and separator, were synthesized by using 2 different Class F fly ash. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
