The identification of the shared pathways and related factors across these diseases helps to better understand the causes of these diseases, to prevent and treat these diseases. In this study, using immune-related diseases, we proposed a new method on how to compare the development mechanisms of related diseases based on biological pathways. Following the developments in genomic technologies, the genotyping gets cheaper and easier, and hence genome-wide association studies (GWAS) emerged. By this means, via studying big-sized case-control groups for a specific disease, potential genetic variations, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) could he identified. With the help of these studies, in which around a million of SNPs are scanned, the variations and genes that could have a role in specific disease development could be detected. In this study, via using available GWAS datasets and human protein-protein interaction network, and via detecting active subnetworks and affected pathways, seven immune related diseases are analyzed. Via investigating the similarities among the identified pathways for related diseases, we aim to define the underlying pathogenic mechanisms, and hence to contribute to the elucidation of disease development mechanisms and to the drug repositioning studies.Conference Object Ensemble Churn Prediction for Internet Service Provider with Machine Learning Techniques(IEEE, 345 E 47TH ST, NEW YORK, NY 10017 USA, 2020) Goy, Gokhan; Kolukisa, Burak; Bahcevan, Cenk; Gungor, Vehbi CagriWith the developing technology in every fields, a competitive marketing environment has been arised In this competitive environment analyzing customer behavior has become vital In particular, the ability to easily change any service provider has become vet) , critical for the company to continue its existence At the same time, the amount of financial resources spent on retaining instituters much less than to obtain new clients. In these methods, fly ashes and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) were mixed in certain proportions and sintered at 600°C in ash furnace. Then, zeolites were obtained from the ground materials after water leaching and solid/liquid separation, respectively. Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) analyses were used to characterize the synthesized zeolites. The zeolites synthesized with Sugözü fly ashes in a ratio of 1:2 had 136.93 meq/100 g CEC, whereas the CEC of synthesized zeolite from Çatalaǧzi fly ashes was found to be 247.88 meq/100 g. As a result, zeolites, which can be used as wastewater treatment agent, energy storage material, catalyst and separator, were synthesized by using 2 different Class F fly ash. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Citation - WoS: 8Citation - Scopus: 8Writing Chemical Patterns Using Electrospun Fibers as Nanoscale Inkpots for Directed Assembly of Colloidal Nanocrystals(Royal Soc Chemistry, 2020) Kiremitler, N. Burak; Torun, Ilker; Altintas, Yemliha; Patarroyo, Javier; Demir, Hilmi Volkan; Puntes, Victor F.; Onses, M. SerdarApplications that range from electronics to biotechnology will greatly benefit from low-cost, scalable and multiplex fabrication of spatially defined arrays of colloidal inorganic nanocrystals. In this work, we present a novel additive patterning approach based on the use of electrospun nanofibers (NFs) as inkpots for end-functional polymers. The localized grafting of end-functional polymers from spatially defined nanofibers results in covalently bound chemical patterns. The main factors that determine the width of the nanopatterns are the diameter of the NF and the extent of spreading during the thermal annealing process. Lowering the surface energy of the substrates via silanization and a proper choice of the grafting conditions enable the fabrication of nanoscale patterns over centimeter length scales. The fabricated patterns of end-grafted polymers serve as the templates for spatially defined assembly of colloidal metal and metal oxide nanocrystals of varying sizes (15 to 100 nm), shapes (spherical, cube, rod), and compositions (Au, Ag, Pt, TiO2), as well as semiconductor quantum dots, including the assembly of semiconductor nanoplatelets.Article Citation - WoS: 42Citation - Scopus: 57What Are the Key Success Factors for Strategy Formulation and Implementation? Perspectives of Managers in the Hotel Industry(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2020-08) Koseoglu, Mehmet Ali; Altin, Mehmet; Chan, Eric; Aladag, Omer FarukThis study investigates how hotel managers describe strategy and identify key success factors for its formulation and implementation. The study analyzes qualitative data collected through semi-structured interviews with property level top managers of hotels in Hong Kong. The findings show that hotel managers prioritize competition analysis and macro-environmental conditions over internal characteristics such as teamwork in strategy formulation. In the implementation phase, however, internal considerations such as employee involvement and strategic consensus are given prominence. This study provides a significant contribution by examining how top level practitioners in the industry interpret success factors in their strategic management efforts, and it highlights a largely neglected area in the hospitality and tourism management literature.Article Citation - WoS: 14Citation - Scopus: 16Triterpenoids and Steroids Isolated from Anatolian Capparis Ovata and Their Activity on the Expression of Inflammatory Cytokines(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2020-01-01) Gazioglu, Isil; Semen, Sevcan; Acar, Ozden Ozgun; Kolak, Ufuk; Sen, Alaattin; Topcu, GulactiContext CapparisL. The ability to control their chemical, optical, or electronic features by controlling their size and shape explains why these materials are so widely preferred. Nevertheless, altering some of these properties may also lead to some undesired side effects, one of which is an increase in optical scattering upon concentration. Here, we address this strong scattering issue in films made of binary colloidal suspensions. In particular, we focus on raspberry-type polymeric particles made of a spherical polystyrene core decorated by small hemispherical domains of acrylate with an overall positive charge, which display an unusual stability against aggregation in aqueous solutions. Their solid films display a brilliant red color due to Bragg scattering but appear completely white on account of strong scattering otherwise. To suppress the scattering and induce transparency, we prepared films by hybridizing them with oppositely charged PS particles with a size similar to that of the bumps on the raspberries. We report that the smaller PS particles prevent raspberry particle aggregation in solid films and suppress scattering by decreasing the spatial variation of the refractive index inside the film. We believe that the results presented here provide a simple strategy to suppress strong scattering of larger particles to be used in optical coatings.
