The method involves 32 concentric shells of varying radii, allowing for rapid data acquisition through undersampling techniques. Simulations using IDEA software demonstrate that this approach can fill the k-space in less than one second, a significant time reduction compared to traditional FLASH sequences that can take 3-4 minutes. The concentric shell model enhances imaging efficiency by minimizing artifacts and ensuring uniform k-space filling, leading to higher resolution and faster scans. This technique shows promise for clinical applications, particularly in dynamic imaging scenarios such as acute stroke and pediatric radiology, where speed and precision are critical. As illustrated in Figure A, the concentric shell trajectories enable uniform k-space filling, significantly reducing scan times and improving image quality. These results are based on the simulations conducted with IDEA software.Article Citation - Scopus: 2Vs (30) Tabanlı Yerel Zemin Koşulları Ve Deprem Hasar İlişkisi: Van-Abdurrahmangazi Örneği(TMMOB Chamber of Geological Engineers, 2021-12-31) Aykaç, Zeynep; Akin, Muge K.; Çabalar, Ali FiratIn order to minimize the disaster risk caused by earthquakes, not only province and district-based studies, but also studies covering small areas such as neighborhoods and villages should be carried out. In this study, Abdurrahmangazi Neighborhood, one of the districts that was severely damaged by two earthquakes that took place on 23 October and 09 November 2011 in the province of Van, was examined. The building conditions and the ground conditions in the study area where the quarter is located have been considered together. Shear wave velocity (V<inf>s</inf>) was used to determine the dynamic behavior of soils. The borehole data obtained in the study area were evaluated and the shear wave velocities were determined by using 5 different empirical relations developed by some researchers for the relationship between SPT-N and V<inf>s</inf> . Using these, V<inf>S(30)</inf> values were determined and ground classifications were made according to the National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program (NEHRP-2000), EUROCODE-8, the Regulation on Buildings to be Built in Earthquake Zones (DBYBHY-2007). In addition, the new earthquake regulations is Turkey Earthquake Building Regulations (TBDY-2018) were also considered. The building damage conditions and the ground conditions in the area where the quarter is located were evaluated together. It was determined that the building damages after earthquakes were caused by structural deficiencies and building quality for this neighborhood, regardless of the ground conditions, and damage distributions were interpreted accordingly. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Gazlaştırma Tesisi Odun Atığı ve Sivas Kangal Linyit Kömürünün Boya Adsorpsiyonunda Kullanım Olanaklarının Araştırılması(Chamber of Mining Engineers of Turkey, 2020-12-01) Kırma, Ramazan; Sarikaya, Musa; Top, S.; Uçkun, Şükrü; Timür, İrfanIn this study, the usage possibilities of wood waste obtained from Gebze MDF and Particle Board Gasification Plant preliminary studies and Sivas Kangal lignite coal as absorbents were investigated. In this way, it was aimed both to evaluate the wastes and to prevent environmental pollution with materials that are cheaper and easier to obtain. The structure and surface properties of wood waste and coal samples crushed and ground to -75 µm size and used as adsorbent were investigated by XRD, SEM and BET analyses. In addition, samples have been characterized by elemental, ash, moisture, volatile matter and fixed carbon analyses. In the experiments, methylene blue (MM) with the formulation of C<inf>16</inf>H<inf>18</inf>CIN<inf>3</inf>S.xH<inf>2</inf>O was used. The effects of temperature, mixing time and concentration parameters on MM adsorption were investigated. Langmuir isotherms were created for different temperatures at optimum concentrations. As a result, it has been revealed that lignite coal and wood waste can be used as adsorbent. A 10 ppm MM for lignite coal and 3 ppm MM for wood waste were determined to be ideal concentrations for adsorption. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Atatürk’ün Esir Aldığı Yunan General Nikolaos Trikupis ve Talas Üsera Garnizonu(Sabit Dokuyan, 2023-06-26) Karataş, Murat; Metin, MehmetAfter the First World War, especially with the support of England, the Greek army invaded Anatolian lands on the way to realize Megali Idea (Greater Greece). The regular army of the Turkish Grand National Assembly established on the Western Front dealt the final blow to the Greek army with The Great Offensive and the Battle of the Commander –in-Chief. In addition to the Greek soldiers captured in the wars before this victory, many Greek soldiers, as well as the commander –in-chief of the Greek army, General Trikupis, and her entourage were also captured after the said victory. As the number of prisoners increased rapidly after The Great Offensive and the Battle of the Commander –in-Chief, the captive officers were transferred to Afyon, Kırşehir and Kayseri. Other military and civilian prisoners were transferred to different parts of Anatolia. Greek prisoners of war were kept in the prisoner garrisons until the implementation of the document on the mutual release of prisoners signed between the states of Turkey and Greece at the Lausanne Peace Conference. Only Greek Officers remained in Talas Prisoner Garrison, one of these prisoner garrisons. The Talas Prisoner Garrison was inspected twice by international Committee of the Red Cross. The delegation prepared reports on the condition of the prisoners and the garrison. In this study, the captivity of General Trikupis on the battlefield, the Talas Prisoner Garrison and situation of the captive Greek officers staying here, the aid of the Red Crescent Society to the prisoners will be emphasized. The Study was planned to be prepared by making use archival resources, memoirs, newspapers and copyright-reviewed works. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Citation - Scopus: 10Kaya Tutma Hendek Performansının 3-Boyutlu Kaya Düşme Analizleriyle Değerlendirilmesi: Akköy (Ürgüp) Örneği(TMMOB - Jeoloji Muhendisleri Odasi jmo@jmo.org.tr, 2019-12-15) Akin, Mutluhan; Dinçer, İsmail; Orhan, Ahmet H.; Ok, Ali Özgün; Akin, Muge K.; Topal, TamerRockfall ditches or areas can be constructed in order to protect against rockfalls in settlements that are in danger of rockfalls when the population density is not high. Nevertheless, in the design of such protection structures, essential site-specific engineering studies and analyzes are often not carried out appropriately. Therefore, rockfallditches are occasionally not capable of preventing rockfalls. Within the scope of this study, the performance of a 2 m-deep and 1 km-long rockfall ditch excavated at the upper elevation of touristic Akköy (Ürgüp) settlement in 2012 in order to prevent the entrance of falling rocks to the residential area was evaluated on the basis of 3-dimensional rockfall analyses. According to the rockfall risk classification, the settlement is under moderate rockfall risk. The digital surface model used in 3-dimensional rockfall analyses was generated by point cloud data obtained from photogrammetric images taken by unmanned aerial vehicle. During field observations, it was determined that the dimension of the previously fallen ignimbrite blocks could reach up to 2 m. On the other hand, the high persistency of discontinuities in the source zone indicates that the dimensions of the potential rockfall blocks may be large. As a result of the 3-dimensional rockfall analyses carried out in RocPro3D software, it was defined that the falling blocks are generally caught by the ditch excavated between the source zone and the settlement, but in some sections of the ditch those blocks may continue to roll over the rockfall ditch. Eventually, Akköy settlement is still partially under the danger of rockfalls. If the rockfall ditch is not periodically cleaned in the course of time, the extent of danger will enlarge with the decrease in the capacity of the trench. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Citation - Scopus: 1Düzce Kent Merkezi Zeminlerinin Sıvılaşma Potansiyelinin Değerlendirilmesi(TMMOB - Jeoloji Muhendisleri Odasi jmo@jmo.org.tr, 2019-06-15) Akin, Muge K.Soil liquefaction is one of the ground deformations occurred during an earthquake which may cause serious damages such as settlement and tilting of structures due to loss of bearing capacity of foundations. Düzce and its surrounding settle on a plain which consists of silty and sandy layers with shallow groundwater level. Besides, the North Anatolian Fault Zone is a major seismic source which is capable of producing large magnitude earthquakes. All these data point out that the ground deformations like liquefaction and lateral spreading may occur during a probable large earthquake around Düzce and its close vicinity. In this study, the geotechnical data of 40 boreholes drilled to determine the local ground conditions and the groundwater level in Düzce were considered. Based on the field studies, it was aimed to evaluate the liquefaction potential considering the fact that the groundwater level is shallow as well as the subsurface soil is composed of loose alluvium. Liquefaction Potential Index (LPI) and Liquefaction Severity Index (LSI) methods were taken into account and the liquefaction potential of Düzce province was determined and mapped with respect to various earthquake scenarios in GIS environment. These maps are compared on the basis of different scenarios. Accordingly, it is concluded that the liquefaction potential is high-very high in the south and south-eastern sections of the study area where the construction of new residential buildings progressively continues. © 2019 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Manganzı Demir Cevherinden Manganın Çözündürülmesinde Farklı İndirgeme Maddelerinin Etkisi(Chamber of Mining Engineers of Turkey, 2022-06-26) Top, S.; Altiner, Mahmut; Kursunoglu, SaitIIn this paper, the manganese extraction from a manganiferous iron ore was investigated using reductive leaching. Various chemicals were used as a reducing agent to leach manganese selectively from the ore in the presence of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solution. Firstly, optimum dissolution values were determined for selective manganese dissolution without using a reducing agent. As it was aimed at the selective extraction of manganese from the ore, the reductive leaching tests were conducted by adding the reducing agents under the following optimal parameters: a leaching time of 1 h, a stirring speed of 300 rpm, a temperature of 70°C, a sulfuric acid concentration of 1 M where the ore was leached with an extraction ratio of 11.54% Mn and 2.16% Fe. Manganese was dissolved with high efficiencies (up to 97.46%) from the ore by using different organic compounds (tartaric acid (C<inf>4</inf>H<inf>6</inf>O<inf>6</inf>), oxalic acid (C<inf>2</inf>H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>4</inf>), citric acid (C<inf>6</inf>H<inf>8</inf>O<inf>7</inf>), glucose (C<inf>6</inf>H<inf>12</inf>O<inf>6</inf>), sucrose (C<inf>12</inf>H<inf>22</inf>O<inf>11</inf>), and maleic acid (C<inf>4</inf>H<inf>4</inf>O<inf>4</inf>)) as the reducing agents. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Citation - Scopus: 2Kalsitik ve Dolomitik Kireçtaşlarının Çimentolu Macun Dolgunun Çevresel Davranışına Etkisi(Chamber of Mining Engineers of Turkey, 2022-03-07) Yılmaz, Tekin; Ercikdi, BayramTo enhance the strength and stability of cemented paste backfill (CPB), many alkaline materials are utilised as replacement or additive to binder or tailings in CPB. However, the effect of these materials on groundwater pollution of CPB needs to be comprehensively investigated. In this study, effects of the utilization of calcitic and dolomitic limestone (CL and DL) as replacement (10 wt.%) to sulphide mine tailings (S-MT) in CPB mixture on the long-term environmental behaviour of CPB were investigated. For this purpose, CPB samples (CPBs) were subjected to dynamic tank leaching tests over 360-days and the analyses of pH, sulphate (SO4 2-) and heavy metals (HMs) on the leachates were carried out. The effects of mineralogy and microstructure on the environmental behavior of CPBs were also examined by X-ray diffractometry and porosity tests. The findings showed that with the utilization of CL and DL, the pH of leachates remained at alkaline levels and the release of SO4 2- was significantly reduced. Furthermore, the denser microstructure in CPBs of CL and DL contributed to be prevented or be remarkably reduced the HMs-releases (except Cu, Mo and Pb). The results reveal that the mechanical properties of CPB as well as its impact on the groundwater pollution should be carefully evaluated. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
