Conference Object Clean Energy Production and Decarbonization of Energy Sector With Floating Photovoltaic Systems(Institute of Physics, 2025-11-01) Bajc, T.; Ozgun, F.; Koca, K.; Karipoğlu, F.Floating photovoltaic systems (FPVS) offer several advantages over traditional land-based PV systems, which has contributed to a growing global interest in their deployment. Since the energy yields are strongly dependent on location and tilt angle of FPVS, this research focuses on the clean energy production and decarbonization potential of FPVS in Serbia and Türkiye for different water bodies, such are natural and artificial lakes and dams. The research is performed for the most appropriate lakes and dams, having in mind importance of the location, energy yields potential, distance from the electricity grid and main roads, environmental impact, water depth and land type quality. Tilt angles are analyzed in a range from 5 to 40°, and the optimal angle is depicted for selected locations. The highest energy yields for Türkiye were obtained for 30° tilt angle, while for Serbia it was 36°. The results showed that possible clean energy production in both countries reaches 15345 kWh of energy in total, while the yearly carbon emissions reduction for all selected locations goes up to 10.76 tCO<inf>2</inf>/year in total. Since the legal framework for the application of FPVS is not established yet in observed countries, these results contribute to the future development of legislation in the field of FPVS and encourage the stakeholders to invest in clean energy production. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.Conference Object Modular Floating Energy Islands With Green Hydrogen Integration: Design of a Small-Scale P2x Scheme(Institute of Physics, 2025-11-01) Akpolat, A.N.; Cundeva, S.; Todorovic, J.; Rexhepi, V.; Okhay, O.; Bakon, T.; Borg, R.P.The climate crisis and rising carbon emissions make the integration of renewable energy systems into electricity grids worldwide inevitable. In this context, modular floating energy islands (MFEI) provide innovative solutions for hybrid systems with high renewable energy penetration. This study explores the simultaneous use of various renewable resources, such as solar, wind, tidal, and wave energy, through small-scale MFEI structures that can be situated in seas and lakes. Thanks to their modular design, these systems offer benefits like scalability, portability, and ease of maintenance, allowing for flexible and adaptive developments in the energy infrastructure. As highlighted in recent literature (e.g., the North Sea Wind Power Hub and EU H2Ocean projects), offshore structures for green hydrogen production support energy storage and carbon-free fuel conversion within the Power-to-X (P2X) framework. This study evaluates the potential of photovoltaic (PV)-supported hydrogen production in MFEI structures through numerical analyses. The results emphasize the strategic role of these structures in enhancing energy security, coastal protection, and reducing carbon emissions by producing significant amounts of hydrogen. This hydrogen can be used for various purposes, including re-electrification, industrial applications, heating, and agriculture. Our study focused on extracting topological features of EEG signals obtained from the motor cortex area of the brain. EEG signals from 8 subjects were used for forming data point clouds with a real-time simulation scenario and then each cloud was processed with JPlex toolbox in order to find out corresponding Betti numbers. These numbers represent the topological structure of the point data cloud related to the persistent homologies, which differ for different motor activity tasks. Especially military and commercial rotary wing aviation is suffering from impaired visual field in sandy, dusty, marine and snowy environments. For example during landing the rotor churns up the particles and creates dense clouds of highly scattering medium, which limits the vision of the pilot and may result in an uncontrolled landing. The vision in such environments is limited because of the high ratio of scattered photons over the ballistic photons which have the image information. We propose to use optical spatial filtering (OSF) method in order to eliminate the scattered photons and only collect the ballistic photons at the receiver. OSF is widely used in microscopy, to the best of our knowledge this will be the first application of OSF for macroscopic imaging. Our experimental results show that most of the scattered photons are eliminated using the spatial filtering in a highly scattering impaired visual field. Survey phase begins with the preliminary research and in situ analysis, which are crucial for comprehending the specifications, potentials and architectural characteristic of the site. After architectural survey, restitution is carried out to understand the situation in the first period of the site and how it has undergone a change in the historical process. During the restitution studies, alternatives are prepared for various periods by using the traces on the building and archival documents. At the last stage of the conservation process, which is restoration, the interventions for deterioration, repair proposals and spatial organization are determined according to the new/current use. This study focuses on restitution process of Sehit Ali Pasa Library, which is currently located in the garden of Vefa High School in Kalenderhane Neighbourhood, and consists of four main parts. The first part focuses on general information of the conservation process. In the second part, the historical background, location, spatial organization, construction technique and materials of the building are examined. The restitution or historical analysis process is the main theme of the third part, and all the findings and considerations are evaluated and interpreted in the final part. In this study, all characteristic features and the layers of the cultural heritage are discussed and documented to indicate the importance of architectural survey and restitution interpretation of the conservation process through the Sehit Ali Pasa Library as a multi-layered example. Unfortunately, the findings in the archives or the libraries are limited to propose certain restitution alternatives or precise historical description for this 18th century library, but it is crucial to underline the importance of detailed research process and methodology, architectural survey to prepare a scientific, reasonable, and consistent historical analyses of cultural heritage such as Sehit Ali Pasa Library as a multi-layered and complex building.Article Citation - WoS: 43Citation - Scopus: 49The Pleiotropic Effects of Fisetin and Hesperetin on Human Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia Cells Are Mediated Through Apoptosis, Cell Cycle Arrest, and Alterations in Signaling Networks(Sage Publications Ltd, 2015-06-17) Adan, Aysun; Baran, YusufFisetin and hesperetin, flavonoids from various plants, have several pharmaceutical activities including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects. However, studies elucidating the role and the mechanism(s) of action of fisetin and hesperetin in acute promyelocytic leukemia are absent. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of the antiproliferative and apoptotic actions exerted by fisetin and hesperetin on human HL60 acute promyelocytic leukemia cells. The viability of HL60 cells was evaluated using the MTT assay, apoptosis by annexin V/propidium iodide (PI) staining and cell cycle distribution using flow cytometry, and changes in caspase-3 enzyme activity and mitochondrial transmembrane potential. Moreover, we performed whole-genome microarray gene expression analysis to reveal genes affected by fisetin and hesperetin that can be important for developing of future targeted therapy. Based on data obtained from microarray analysis, we also described biological networks modulated after fisetin and hesperetin treatment by KEGG and IPA analysis. Fisetin and hesperetin treatment showed a concentration- and time-dependent inhibition of proliferation and induced G2/M arrest for both agents and G0/G1 arrest for hesperetin at only the highest concentrations. There was a disruption of mitochondrial membrane potential together with increased caspase-3 activity. Furthermore, fisetin- and hesperetin-triggered apoptosis was confirmed by annexin V/PI analysis. The microarray gene profiling analysis revealed some important biological pathways including mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) and inhibitor of DNA binding (ID) signaling pathways altered by fisetin and hesperetin treatment as well as gave a list of genes modulated a parts per thousand yen2-fold involved in cell proliferation, cell division, and apoptosis. In order to address this limitation and improve the classification performance, this study introduces an enhancement to TextNetTopics. TextNetTopics-SFTS-SBTS integrates two novel scoring approaches: Sequential Forward Topic Scoring (SFTS) and Sequential Backward Topic Scoring (SBTS), which consider topic interactions by assessing sets of topics simultaneously. This integration aims to streamline the topic selection process and enhance classifier efficiency for text classification. As such, devising an effective feature selection scheme is essential. In this study, we present SEMANT, a novel hybrid filter-wrapper feature selection method that utilizes filter-based Chi-Square and the wrapper-based G-S-M approach. SEMANT incorporates fastText neural word embedding similarities to promote greater semantic inclusion in the selection of features for text classification tasks. The performance of the proposed method was investigated on the WOS-5736 and LitCovid datasets and compared with TextNetTopics, a topic modeling-based topic selection algorithm for text classification. Experimental results confirm that the proposed approach outperforms its alternative.
