    Prediction of Preference and Effect of Music on Preference: A Preliminary Study on Electroencephalography from Young Women

    Neuromarketing is the application of the neuroscientific approaches to analyze and understand economically relevant behavior. In this study, the effect of loud and rhythmic music in a sample neuromarketing setup is investigated. The second aim was to develop an approach in the prediction of preference using only brain signals. In this work, 19-channel EEG signals were recorded and two experimental paradigms were implemented: no music/silence and rhythmic, loud music using a headphone, while viewing women shoes. For each 10-sec epoch, normalized power spectral density (PSD) of EEG data for six frequency bands was estimated using the Burg method. The effect of music was investigated by comparing the mean differences between music and no music groups using independent two-sample t-test. In the preference prediction part sequential forward selection, k-nearest neighbors (k-NN) and the support vector machines (SVM), and 5-fold cross-validation approaches were used. It is found that music did not affect like decision in any of the power bands, on the contrary, music affected dislike decisions for all bands with no exceptions. Furthermore, the accuracies obtained in preference prediction study were between 77.5 and 82.5% for k-NN and SVM techniques. The results of the study showed the feasibility of using EEG signals in the investigation of the music effect on purchasing behavior and the prediction of preference of an individual.

    Performance Evaluation of Energy Companies With a Novel Integrated Multi- Criteria Decision Making Method

    Financial statements are an important tool for assessing and analyzing an organization's financial performance. Financial performance analysis allows for an accurate and appropriate appraisal of an organization's performance. The evaluation procedure must be thoroughly stated because financial performance indicators represent a company's competitiveness. This study provides a novel integrated multi-criteria decision-making method for analyzing an organization's financial performance. The applicability of the proposed method is assessed employing financial ratios that are integrated to generate a financial performance score for eight well-known Turkish energy companies. The criteria are weighted using the entropy method in the proposed method. The multi- attributive border approximation area comparison (MABAC) method is used to rank the companies. As the weights of the criteria have an impact on the ranking outcomes, a sensitivity analysis of the weights is performed. We also exhibit a comparison analysis of energy company rankings to validate the proposed approach's results using four MCDM methods: ELECTRE, MAUT, TOPSIS, and WASPAS. In addition, an alternative weighting method is also used to evaluate the results. The results show that the proposed method is an effective MCDM for coping with evaluation problems.

    Evolution of Office Space in Cinema and Television

    After capitalism, the emergence of factories separated home and work from each other. In the early years of capitalism, the workspace was the production space where business used material labour extensively. In the following years, a new workforce-immaterial labour-has emerged with the increase in paperwork and the replacement of human labour with machines in mass production. The workspace of this new workforce has no longer been the production site. Thus, the office has emerged to meet the needs of this workforce. Offices, the workspace of immaterial labour, have evolved in various ways since the early 1900s. As a result of mobility that emerged with globalization, people started to use not only offices but also various places (cafes, airports etc.) as workspaces and the concept of office has become even more flexible. Starting from the mobile era of today, how is the workspace going to be in the future? Is there going to be a workspace called 'the office'? With reference to these questions, the present study focuses on the evolution of office space to draw a perspective on the changes over years. Firstly, the emergence of workspace is mentioned, which is closely tied to capitalist production. Afterwards, the evolution of workspace is analysed historically, and it is visualized with the help of movies and tv series that include office spaces. In addition, future scenario based movies and tv series are examined to create a view about future lifestyle and work life. Finally, there are recommendations for future office spaces that may respond to the needs of flexible and mobile workers.
